The CyberInstitute is undertaking a new Special Project about Documents and Procedures.
|
History
First started in 2002, the CyberInstitute has provided information, and links to information, for places where the physical and institutional infrastructures are relatively weak. The rise of Web 2.0 provided opportunities to assist small businesses in developing countries, and address some of the inadequacies of conventional project-oriented approaches to poverty reduction.
Some of the CyberInstitute's past Special Projects are listed below. International Recognition of the CyberInstitute has included:
|
Documents and Procedures
Dealing with the documents and procedures required of small businesses is very difficult for unempowered people, especially women. Developed project to make available information about existing documents and procedures that are relevant to small businesses. Developed aspects in collaboration with local Chambers of Commerce and with local chapters of Transparency International.
To maximise the language scope of the CyberInstitute, based directory structure on international classification systems. These are maintained by international committees, and translated by governments into numerous local languages. Initially used SITC codes and ISIC codes, then converted to CPC codes.
Digitising books, pilot project
Scanned, converted, and uploaded numerous how-to materials. These unpublished paper documents had been created as training materials for projects, and were no longer used. This pilot project was undertaken in collaboration with a regional UN project.
Developed mechanism for using text messages on mobile phones which then appear on website discussion forums (long before Twitter) Lauched the service at the International Rural Women’s Day ceremonies which took place in a village in Fiji.
Developed project to create animated how-to films using the massive Second Life online community. Extensive research into filming once, and then recrafting using different avatars as the trainers and trainees, for example having the flexibility to choose Fijiian men, or Afghan women, as easily as one changes language on a DVD.
